What is the accountant thinking about the future of the digital industry?
Where is the current industry standing when it comes to digital technology? We ask, and accountants respond, see everything from making digital tax (MTD) to how they use new solutions.
The poll took place during the webinar of our iris element updates, where 1,300 accountants and bookkeepers joined us.
The answer we receive paints a picture that is sometimes surprising about how the profession handles change.
We find stories of challenges and opportunities. On the one hand, there is anxiety about new compliance regulations. On the other hand, there is a real optimism that accountants can use technology to get this compliance work. We also saw it people is the front and middle of their cloud strategy.
Without further ado, see our results, starting with what is currently the headline of the industry: MTD.
MTD Reality Check: The time of imperfect progress for this industry
We start by asking accountants how ready they think their clients to MTD Ita.
The results are a little diverse.
Overall, 3% said all their client bases were fully prepared, and 9% said the basis was almost complete. 43% say 51-75% of clients are ready.
However, almost a third (29%) shows that 25% or fewer their clients are arranged.
This confirms what is suspected by many people in the industry: significant progress has been made, but there is still much to be done.
How this is in line with other industrial statistics
What we see here is in harmony with a broader industrial sentiment. It is always a mixed view. Clients have different expectations, and accountants must juggle this with a deadline, whatever happens.
For example, HMRC said that medium sized practice often feels the pressure between two sets of clients. On the one hand, they have ‘digital’ clients who adopt early. On the other hand, they have traditional clients who are doubtful about change.
Daily life -day exercise, apparently, never directly.
The fatigue of compliance is real, but the MTD is the top
Perhaps the most prominent finding is that accountants confirm MTD Itsa are the challenges of their main compliance. Overall, 78.8% said this was the problem. It’s almost four times more than other regulatory problems. This reflects the professional collective concern about being a relationship between complex regulations and clients who often do not understand the implications.
The response does display other compliance problems. For example, some accounts agree that economic crime and company transparency law and AML are a problem for them.
Why MTD is different
However, the dominance of MTD reflects a very specific burden. With MTD, accountants simultaneously are compliance educators, technical implementers, And Relationship Manager. That is a lot to face, and reminds us of other recent studies. This shows an increase in stress among accounting professionals, especially in practices that serve SMEs. There is a strong correlation between two sets of findings.
Regulatory pressure
What do you think the most valuable software investment accountants will they make in the next 12 months? Our polls show that 72% of companies say it is in tax automation and compliance.
The expected investment in this automation significantly defeats the client’s experience (15%) and practical efficiency (9%).
When we look at all our results together, it is clear that compliance is a top priority because of the pressure of the rules.
Cloud revolution prioritizes people
Furthermore, we ask what accountants they think are the most important benefits of cloud technology.
Clear winner? Greater flexibility in work settings, as indicated by 51% of responses.
Reduction of infrastructure costs (13% of responses) and increasing security (14% of responses) including among those who are far behind the main choice of humans.
This finding captures fundamental changes in the accounting profession after Pandemi. The workplace has changed. Hybrid work and employee welfare are king. Cloud technology is the key to maintaining talent and achieving a balance of work life.
How to Accountant Verifying ID is Shifting
There is more evidence of industrial transition when we see how accountants approach the verification of IDs for companies.
For example, accountants are divided between using automatic ID verification devices (53%) and manual processes (47%).
There are other things that are very interesting. Among those who use automatic tools, 75% prefer the Ad-hoc client-client approach. This shows that accountants want control and flexibility even when applying new technology. They did not rush to the full automation; Conversely, they are carefully choosing when and how to use it.
The future of the first technology
What will encourage the most growth in the next three years for accountants? 65% of respondents said it would be efficiency through technology. Instead of expanding through traditional methods such as service or new acquisition paths, they want technology to improve capabilities.
The good news is that if they reach this, the value based on value and higher level advisory work is possible. By automating routine compliance tasks, accountants position themselves to concentrate on strategic suggestions that are increasingly needed by clients.
Iris elements affect the accountant/client relationship
How does the Iris element make a difference in the life of accountants? Accountant Change The biggest change is to be able to access real-time data. This, in turn, allows client interactions that are more meaningful and frequent. This accountant switched from journalists occasionally to become sustainable advisers.
This shift to sustainable involvement may be the most significant change in accountant-client relations for decades.
The profession changes pressure into a solution that is centered on people
The results of this poll reflect the mindset of the profession that takes over.
Accountants form the future of the industry rather than only combined by external pressure. Yes, there is anxiety about the deadline of compliance and challenges in the implementation of technology, but there is also strategic thought.
Accountants are looking for ways to convert pressure into catalysts for positive changes. Internally, they use it to improve the process and work life of their staff. Externally, they embrace digital transformation to better serve their clients.
You are not alone in feeling pressure, but collectively, you find opportunities. This profession moves together towards a more efficient, flexible, and focused future on clients.
So, how will you take technology and use it to improve life for your staff and your clients?
